National Databases

Engenerate provides direct chat access to major national infrastructure databases without requiring separate setup.

What National Databases Are For

Use these sources when you want to query public infrastructure records in natural language and inspect the results directly inside chat.

National Bridge Inventory (NBI)

The National Bridge Inventory contains records for approximately 600,000 bridges across the United States.

Example queries:

  • "Show me bridges in poor condition in Harris County, TX"
  • "Find bridges with a sufficiency rating below 50 in Louisiana"
  • "List bridges on Interstate 10 that were built before 1970"

Results appear as a structured table in chat with an inline map (when results have coordinates). From there you can:

  • export the results as CSV
  • select a row to open the full bridge record

National Inventory of Dams (NID)

The National Inventory of Dams contains records for approximately 92,000 dams across the United States.

Example queries:

  • "Find major dams near Nashville"
  • "Show high-hazard dams in California built before 1960"
  • "List dams on the Cumberland River with a storage capacity above 10,000 acre-feet"

Results also appear as a structured table in chat with an inline map (when results have coordinates), CSV export, and detail-sheet access from the results.

National Low Head Dam Inventory (NLHDI)

The National Low Head Dam Inventory contains records for documented low-head dams and similar in-channel barriers across the United States.

Example queries:

  • "Find low-head dams near Columbus, OH"
  • "Show low-head dams in Pennsylvania"
  • "List low-head dams within 10 miles of Louisville, KY"

Results appear as a structured table in chat with an inline map (when results have coordinates), CSV export, and detail-sheet access from the results.

How to Use Them

You do not need to switch tools or configure anything separately. Just ask the question in chat using normal language.

These database lookups are especially useful when you want to:

  • identify nearby bridges, dams, or low-head dams
  • filter by condition, hazard, age, or other attributes
  • inspect results on the inline map and open full records from the table
