Credit System
Billing and credits help you manage document processing, included base chat usage, and premium model access.
Overview
Engenerate uses a credit system alongside plan-based allowances to manage document processing and AI usage. Understanding how credits work helps you plan your usage and avoid unexpected interruptions.
What Credits Are Used For
Credits are consumed for two types of activity:

Document processing — Credits are used when a document is processed and its content is extracted and indexed. The cost depends on the size and complexity of the document.

Premium AI chat — Credits are used each time you send a message using a Premium model. The cost is based on the number of tokens in the conversation (your message plus the model's response), charged at the model's published rate with 0% markup.
Base model chat within your monthly allowance does not consume credits.
Your Credit Balance
Your credit balance is visible in the billing section of your account. Credits are added to your balance from three sources:

Base Chat Allowance
Every plan includes a monthly allowance of base model chat messages. This allowance is issued as a monthly grant that resets at the start of each billing cycle.
Annual plans: Base chat allowances on annual plans are issued in monthly installments — one month's worth at a time. You cannot spend all 12 months of base chats upfront; unused allowance from a given month does not roll forward.
Once your monthly base chat allowance is exhausted, base model usage begins drawing from your credit balance. Premium model usage always draws from your credit balance regardless of allowance status.
Premium Chat Pricing
Premium models are charged at their published input and output token rates with no additional markup. Rates are shown in the model selector before you begin a conversation.

Annual Plan Credits
Credits included with annual plans are delivered as a full lump-sum at the start of the billing year. This is intentionally different from base chat allowances, which are released month-by-month. Your full annual credit grant is available to spend from day one.
Team Credit Pool
Teams have a shared credit pool that all members draw from when working in the Team workspace. The pool size is calculated based on the number of seats:
Pool size = max(21,000, seats × 7,000) credits per month
All team members contribute usage to the same pool. The Team pool is drawn down before personal credits when you are working in a Team project. The credit balance displayed in the application header switches automatically between your personal balance and your Team's pool balance depending on which workspace is active.
Credit Packs
If you need additional credits beyond your monthly grant, credit packs can be purchased from the billing page. Credit pack purchases add to your balance immediately. Credit packs expire after 12 months from the date of purchase.
Managing Your Usage
- Use Standard or Advanced base chat for routine project work. These are covered by your monthly allowance.
- Switch to a Premium model when you need a specific provider, model capability, or response quality that base models do not provide.
- Keep an eye on your credit balance before processing large batches of documents or starting a premium-heavy conversation session.
- The model selector shows an estimated credit cost per message for each premium model before you start.
