The Plot Digitizer gives you precision tools for reviewing, correcting, and exporting data from chart and figure images.
What It Is
The Plot Digitizer is a precision tool for reviewing, correcting, and confirming data extracted from chart and figure images.
When Engenerate processes a document containing a plot, it performs an automatic first-pass extraction. The Plot Digitizer is where you take that first pass and refine it to the accuracy your work requires—without starting from scratch.
When to Use It
Use the Plot Digitizer when:
- You need to verify that extracted data points match the original figure
- The automatic axis detection needs correction
- You are working with a multi-dataset figure and need to review each series independently
- You want to export clean, validated data from a chart
Axes
Axes define the coordinate system for the chart. In the Plot Digitizer you can:
- Review the automatically detected axis overlay
- Add, adjust, or delete axis definitions
- Set the axis type (linear, logarithmic)
- Assign axis labels and units
- Set minimum and maximum values
Accurate axis configuration is the foundation of accurate data extraction—confirm the axis setup before reviewing data points.
Datasets
Each data series in the figure is represented as a dataset. In the Plot Digitizer you can:
- View all detected datasets for the figure
- Add new datasets manually
- Rename datasets to match the original legend or your project naming conventions
- Assign colors to match the original figure for visual alignment
- Delete datasets that are not needed
Data Points
Once axes and datasets are configured, you can review and edit the individual data points for each dataset.

Zoom Portal
The Zoom Portal provides a magnified view of the figure area around the cursor. It is one of the most useful precision tools in the Plot Digitizer for working with dense datasets, small figures, or charts where data points are tightly clustered.
Use the Zoom Portal when placing or adjusting points that require sub-pixel precision relative to the figure.
Export Options
Once you are satisfied with the digitized data, you can export the results in several formats:

Exported data is organized by dataset and includes the axis labels, units, and coordinate values for each data point.
Validated data can also be saved directly as a project Dataset, making it a reusable project asset available in chat context and future analysis.
