Datasets
Datasets give you a structured place to manage imported, extracted, and validated data inside each project.
Overview
Datasets are the structured side of Engenerate.
A dataset may come from:
- Document extraction
- Figure validation via the Plot Digitizer
- File import
- Manual creation
The Datasets area gives you a dedicated place to view, manage, and organize those assets independently from the original source documents. This separation is important because not all valuable project data should remain tied to a single source file.
What You Can Do in the Datasets Area
From the Datasets tab in the Resources panel, you can:
- Browse project datasets
- Search and sort datasets
- Manually create new datasets
- Import files such as CSV, Excel, text, or JSON
- Open datasets for review
- Validate data in the Plot Digitizer
- Delete one or more datasets
Creating Datasets
Engenerate supports both manual and import-based dataset creation.
Use manual creation when you already know the structure you want and want to enter it directly. Use import when you already have data in a file and want to bring it into the project quickly.
Importing Datasets
You can import datasets by:
- Choosing the import workflow from the Add menu in the Datasets tab
- Dragging supported files directly into the Datasets area
Supported import formats include CSV, Excel, text, and JSON. The import path is designed to support common engineering data formats while keeping the workflow straightforward.
Viewing and Managing Datasets
Each dataset can be opened in a dedicated view for inspection. This lets you move from a high-level list into the actual details of the dataset without leaving the project context.
In a mature project, this becomes especially valuable when you need to compare imported data, extracted data, and validated figure data side by side.
