Packages
A package is the unit of review: one set of documents at one point in design. A 30% set, a 90% set, and an issued-for-bid set are separate packages. A later package can continue an earlier one, which is how backcheck works.
Create a Package
- Select Review in the workspace header.
- Click + (Create new package).
- Fill in the dialog and click create.
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Name | A label for the package, such as "Bid set" |
| Continues | None, or an earlier package this one follows. Set it to enable Backcheck |
| Phase | Not set, 30%, 50%, 60%, 90%, 100%, IFB, or IFC |
| Description | What the package covers |
To change a package later, use the package list (Rename package, Delete package) or the Package actions menu (Information). Information holds Continues, Project number, Revision, Phase, and Date.
An issued package cannot be deleted. A package with a review still running cannot be deleted either.
Add Documents
On Setup, the Review Package Documents section lists the package's files. Click the add button (Add documents) and choose:
- Upload documents — stage new files. Nothing is uploaded until you confirm Review Package.
- Add from project resources — pick files already in the project.
Each file has a Role. New files start as Plan set.
| Role | Use for |
|---|---|
| Plan set | Drawings |
| Specifications | The project manual or specification sections |
| Special provisions | Special provisions |
| Bid schedule | The bid schedule |
| Addendum | Addenda |
| Reference standard | A standard you want checked against, supplied by you |
| Design report | Design reports. Read for local concerns and conflicting numbers, and checked against the plans and specifications |
| Calculations | Calculation packages. Read the same way as design reports |
| Other | Anything else |
The same file can have a different role in a different package.
The table also shows each file's Status: New (staged), Processing…, a sheet count such as "42 sheets", or Processing failed with a Reprocess button. A warning appears when a plan set has sheet records for fewer pages than it has drawing pages, or has none.
When the package continues an earlier one, a Replaces column appears. Each row shows the earlier file it replaces. The default pairing is shown as the file name followed by "(auto)". Change it, or choose None, so Backcheck compares the right files.
Documents are locked while a review runs and after the package is issued.
Criteria Sets
A Criteria Set is a saved list you attach to a package. Criteria Sets is on Setup. A set can hold:
- Items that must be printed. The review looks for each item on the drawings, in the specifications, and in reports. Finding the item is not a finding. Failing to find a printed line is.
- Design rules, such as "use circular piers when the stream is under 50 feet". The review writes a finding only when the package itself prints the violation, and it quotes the page. If the printed text does not settle the rule, the finding stays open. A later run that shows the rule is met, or does not apply, can close it.
- Numeric limits, such as a maximum velocity or a minimum cover. The review checks your design reports and calculations against the limit and writes a finding when a printed number fails it. This needs a file with the Design report or Calculations role in the package.
A package with no set selected produces no criteria findings.
To use a set:
- Create it with Create Manually or Create in Chat, or open a row's menu and choose Edit or Edit in Chat. In chat, the Author criteria badge appears in the prompt footer.
- A set must be saved before it can be selected. A draft in chat cannot be selected until you save it.
- Tick the sets you want, then click Save criteria.
Selection is locked while a review runs and after the package is issued. A package created to continue an earlier one starts with the earlier package's sets that you can read.
Standards Looked Up
Standards looked up on Setup lists the standards and codes your documents cite, grouped by how they were resolved:
- Resolved from a document — found in your package, your organization library, or the Engenerate Library. Design reports and calculations are scanned for cited standards too
- Resolved by an organization rule
- Resolved from a web search
- Unresolved
Click Exclude from future runs on a row to stop later runs of this package from using it. Click Excluded · Restore to bring it back.
Run the Review
Click Review Package on Setup. A confirmation dialog titled "Review" followed by the package name shows:
- Processing new documents — the files and pages you staged and the minimum cost to process them
- Review — the review estimate for the plan sheets already in the package
- Required balance and Available — what the run needs and what your usage balance holds
A review price applies to each run. See Review price. If your balance is short, Review Package stays disabled. Use Add usage to top up. See Billing and Usage.
The run waits until every file finishes processing. While it runs you can click Cancel review.
If two Specifications files contain the same section number, the review stops and asks what to do. Choose Back to documents to remove one file or change its role, or Review anyway to continue for that run only.
If a run fails, a notice on Setup gives the reason. Fix it and click Review Package again.
Running the review again updates the same list of findings. It keeps your earlier work on a finding when the underlying issue is the same.
Runs and Coverage
In Package actions, Runs lists each run for the package. Coverage details shows what the latest run covered and what it could not read. A file locked for unpaid processing is left out of the run and appears as a coverage gap.
Issue a Package
When the review is final, open Package actions and choose Issue package. The confirmation says: "Issuing locks the documents and the runs. There is no way to unissue the package."
After you issue a package:
- the file list is locked and no new run can start
- comments, dispositions, responses, and the package information stay editable
- the package cannot be deleted
Issue package is disabled while a review is running, and for viewers without write access.
